Item Story
The round lamps in the Taj Mahal series are immediately recognisable thanks to their typical Indian openwork patterns. Think of the intricately carved windows in Mughal architecture, such as the Taj Mahal in Agra, India, where a beautiful filtered light enters through patterns of holes in the stone facade.
The white lamp is made of Makrana Marble. The black version is a softer Palewa Soapstone.
First the stone is cut into a block of the right size. This is made round and then the inside is hollowed out. The holes are drilled one at a time. The makers in Agra, India are masters of this complicated technique.
Care Instructions: Clean the stone lamp with a soft damp cloth while the electricity is switched off.
